Human drugs may end Oklahoma City gorilla’s infertility woes

A rare Western lowland gorilla hasn’t become pregnant after five years of mating at the Oklahoma City Zoo. 
But a team of obstetricians and veterans think they have discovered why.

A tiny bump inside the animal’s brain was making her hormones go haywire.

The solution is simple, said Jennifer D’Agostino, director of veterinary services at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Kelele the gorilla started a human fertility medicine two weeks ago.

Her condition is a fairly common and often treatable cause of infertility in humans, said Dr. LaTasha Craig, an infertility specialist who worked with zoo staff.

If the medicine works, Kelele could become pregnant as early as this summer, she said.
